DescriptionA vest for a young man, made of maroon and sage green velvet, woven in a checked pattern, with small white squares at every second corner. The vest is double-breasted and has a wide shawl collar, which narrows at the back of the neck. The six buttons of the opening are covered in maroon silk thread worked in a spoked design. There is one breast pocket on the proper left side, and a 4 1/2-inch-wide pocket on each lower side. The collar, the center front opening continuing along the bottom edge, and the tops of the pockets are finished with fine black cord. The back of the vest is made with dark brown twill-woven cotton. The center back seam has a shallow notch at the bottom edge. A buckled strap across the back adjusts the fit. The lining of the vest is light tan-colored glazed cotton. The bottom edge of each vest front panel is lined with dark brown leather.
