DescriptionMan's vest of black silk, woven with a stripe figured with a diamond design. The vest has a deep, narrow shawl collar, forming a U-shaped neckline. The center front opening fastens with four dark buttons, possibly of shell. The opening edges, continuing along the bottom, are bound with black satin. The collar is also black satin. The center front waistline is W-shaped. There is a breast pocket and 4 1/4-inch-wide lower pocket on each side. The backing fabric is a fine, twill-woven black silk. The center back edge is notched and the side seams are vented about one inch. The fit of the vest adjusts with a buckled strap across the lower back. The lining of the vest is black twill-woven satin (not as fine as the backing fabric). There is a 5 1/2-inch-long black elastic loop stitched inside the top of the button stand.
