DescriptionLarge, redware flowerpot with a ruffled rim, tapered sides, and a flat bottom with a hole in the center of the bottom. The sides of the flowerpot have a pattern of incised lines, beginning about two inches down from the rim. First, a group of horizontal incised lines circle the flowerpot, with a group of undulating incised lines below; the same pattern of horizontal incised lines over undulating incised lines is repeated one additional time below the first groups. The exterior sides of the flowerpot, with the exception of the lower two inches, and the interior of the rim only are glazed; the remainder of the flowerpot is not glazed. The flowerpot is also decorated with many irregular patches of manganese black applied over the incised lines. There is crazing over all the glazed surfaces of the flowerpot, and the glaze has chipped or worn off some of the edges of the ruffled rim.
