DescriptionOvoid, redware jug with a clear lead glaze and patches of manganese black decoration. The lead glaze covers the interior and exterior of the jug; the bottom of the jug and small portions of the foot have no glaze. The jug has a flat foot and sides that swell, then contract, to form a narrow neck and rolled rim. To one side, a pulled strap handle connects the neck with the body of the jug. Several patches of manganese black have been applied to the shoulder, handle, and body of the jug. Portions of the glaze have crazing, especially on the exterior upper half of the jug. There are a few chips in the glaze and many scratches around the widest points of the jug. Opposite the handle, an old chip may have been obscurred or repaired using an unknown black substance.
