DescriptionQuarter plate daguerreotype of George Kellogg and Sarah (Colton) Kellogg, likely taken to mark their wedding in 1854, based on the quality of their clothes. However, it could have been taken later, possibly as late as 1858 or early 1859. Sarah gave birth to twins in September 1859, and the twins were either stillborn or died the day they were born, and she does not appear pregnant in this photograph, nor is she wearing mourning dress, which suggests the image was made sometime between 1854 and 1858.

The photographer is unknown.

George Kellogg is standing. He is wearing dark trousers and a dark coat, its sleeves slightly belled from the elbow to the wrist. It is worn unbuttoned, revealing a patterned or embroidered vest, a watch chain visible on the left. His bowtie also sports small flowers. His shirt is white, as is his stiff, upturned collar. His hair is parted to the side, curled and oiled at the ears, and fashioned into a low puff at his forehead. He wears a goatee, no mustache.

Sarah is wearing a plaid dress with a fitted bodice and three matching plaid bows down the front. The sleeves of the dress are long, with what appear to be ruffles at the armscye. The sleeves are quite wide at the wrists, where they feature an overlay of dark, decorative lace. Her lace collar is quite neat, laying flat against her neck and the top of her dress. It has decorative, pointed scalloped edges. It is fastened at her neck with a brooch. Her hair is brown. It is parted in the middle and fashioned into large puffs over her ears.
