DescriptionSixth plate daguerreotype by Major Moulthrop of B.L. Brown. Brown is in his late 20s or early 30s, and is wearing a jacket with wide lapels, a waiscoat with visible sheen, nap, or possibly pattern (brocade fabric?), a white shirt, an upturned white collar, and a necktie tied in what appears to be a half-bow. His arms are folded across his stomach. His hair is parted in the middle, with the top fashioned into a low puff. His sideburns extend to his chin, and he has no other facial hair.
Object number1992.97.1
InscribedHandwritten in ink on paper on inside of right side of case (under the image package): "B. L. [S?]Brown / Aug 18th 52"NotesSubject note: One of Emily Brown Moulthrop's brothers was named Robert Brown ("Bob"?), and his birth date is 1818, which would put him at the right age for the man in this daguerreotype. However, Robert Brown died in 1851, so if the inscription on the inside of the case, which states 1852 is the year this photograph was made, this cannot be the same person. On View
