DescriptionAmerican cavalry on the left pursue Mexican infantry on the right. In the center, Mexican soldiers lie dead or wounded beside a cannon. Cannonballs are nearby. An American soldier on horseback seizes a Mexican officer, who holds a sword or rapier in his right hand. A man behind him fires a pistol. The Americans wear trousers; the Mexicans wear breeches and hose. Dense smoke obscures the action in the right background. A large palm tree is at the far left. Tropical plants are in the left foreground.
