DescriptionA man lies on an ornately carved bed, propped up on pillows and covered with blankets. He wears a night shirt with an open collar. His eyes are closed and he appears to be dead or dying. The bed is in the Empire style and has carved eagles at the foot and a large carved eagle above the headboard. An angel is in the corner of the headboard and the letter "N' is incorporated into the decorations on the sides of the bed. Six battle flags or banners are grouped at the top of the bed. A sword, a laurel wreath, and a stylized map showing "FRANCE" "SPAIN" "AUSTRIA" "PRUSSIA" "RUSSIA" "POLAND" "ITALY" and "EGYPT" are on a stool beside the bed. Six men stand around the bed. Most wear military uniforms with epaulets, hats, and swords. One man wears a turban, a fur-lined coat, and pantaloons. Another wears a fur hat. Some men have beards or mustaches.
