DescriptionFour men in military uniforms are descending a staircase. The second from the bottom holds a flag in his left hand and clutches his breast with his right hand. His cap falls off behind him. The other soldiers carry rifles with fixed bayonets. A fifth man, standing at the right, fires a shorter rifle, possibly a hunting rifle, at the man with the flag. Smoke issues from the barrel of the gun. All four men have beards and mustaches. A doorway is in the right background.
