DescriptionOn the left, ranks of soldiers wearing Union uniforms charge towards the right. They hold rifles with fixed bayonets. One man carries an American flag. Officers on horseback are in the background. On the right, Rebel soldiers flee before the Union charge. They carry knapsacks and canteens. Some wear swords. At the far right, one man fires his rifle. A cannon is nearby. Dead and wounded men lie on the ground. One fires a pistol at the Union line. In the distance, additional ranks of Union soldiers and cannon are at the left, while additional Rebel units retreat towards the right. Tents and flags are in the right background. Leafless trees are beyond. A large leafless tree is in the left foreground.
