DescriptionMen in zouave uniforms fight on foot against a troop of mounted cavalry in blue military uniforms. One of the zouaves holds an American flag. Others hold or fire rifles with fixed bayonets. One man holds a knife. The cavalrymen wield swords or sabers. A horse collapses at the left. Men, apparently dead or wounded, are on the ground. Trees are at the left and right. The background is largely hidden by clouds of smoke.
