DescriptionView of Essex from the Northeast. The body of water beyond the strip of land labeled "Causeway" is probably North Cove, an inlet of the Connecticut River. Numerous houses are on the largely treeless slope, chiefly along the main street, which rises from the river. On the hill to the right are the Episcopal Church, the Methodist Church, the Baptist Church and the Baptist Academy
