DescriptionWoman's white cotton nightgown of below hip-length. The opening extends the length of the center front and fastens with five glass buttons. The neckline is high and round and finished with a one-inch-wide band of eyelet embroidery in a vine pattern (also called "broderie anglais"). The shoulders are sloped and dropped. The long sleeves are gathered slightly at the top of the armscye and are gathered into cuffs made of the same eyelet embroidery as is used for the neckband. These cuffs fasten with a single white glass button. The front and back panels are pieced with triangular inserts at the side seams to create the desired width. Seams are stitched selvage-to-selvage, or they are flat-felled.
