DescriptionWoman's chemise of fine white cotton. The sleeves are short (five inches) and gathered at the shoulder. They are trimmed at the openings with eyelet embroidery on a ribbed-weave fabric. This same eyelet embroidery on ribbed cotton trims the one-inch-wide band of fabric which surrounds the wide neckline. This band is piped along the seam edge. An 11-inch placket opening at center front fastens with a stud at the top, as indicated by the two opposing eyelets. The sleeves are cut full under the arm to provide ease. The underarm seam is reinforced with a 1 1/2-inch-wide lining. The front and back panels are gathered into the neckline band. They are pieced at the side seams with triangular inserts to achieve the desired width. The hem is 7/8-inch wide. The side seams and hem are hand-stitched; the rest of the chemise is machine-stitched.
