DescriptionWoman's chemise of heavy white cotton. The neckline is very wide, surrounded by a 1 1/4-inch-wide band of self-fabric, edged with machine-made lace. The chemise opens at center front for about six inches; it fastens on the band with a single, white pressed-glass button. The sleeves are short (5 3/4-inches) and are gathered into the neckline and into a band at the sleeve opening. The sleeve band is also edged with lace. The sleeve is cut in a rectangular shape, with one lower corner turned up diagonally to create a gusset effect. The front and back panels of the chemise are gathered into the neckline band. These panels have been pieced at the lower side seams to create sufficient width. The hem is 5/8-inch deep.
