NotesSubject Note: Zachary Taylor (1784-1850) was a hero of the Mexican War (1846-1848). He assumed command of the U.S. forces in January 1846, and his troops encamped near Matamoros in the spring of 1846. Taylor became President of the United States in 1849. He died in 1850.
