DescriptionThree-quarter-length standing portrait of a man wearing a double-breasted coat, tie, and sash. His left hand rests on a table on which are a scroll of paper, a book, and a tablecloth. He holds in his right hand a roll of paper on which is inscribed the words: "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE" "LIBERTE" "FRATERNITE". Behind him are a column and drapery. In the background is a square, possibly the Place Vendôme in Paris, with a monument consisting of a tall column with a statue on top and several large buildings with mansard roofs.

The scale is similar, though the composition is in reverse and does not include the background. The ultimate source is probably a painted or photographic portrait and has not yet been identified.
