DescriptionWooden sole, mounted on a horseshoe-shaped iron base, extending about 1 1/8 inches from the sole. The iron extends across the sole like a finger to the toe to provide extra support. Nailed around the toe area and on either side are the minimal remains of the leather toe cap and leather tabs which would have been tied across the instep of the foot with a ribbon. A thin strip of iron reinforces the leather under the nails. The wooden sole is slightly shaped to accomodate the foot and has a square toe. The edges are chamfered on the bottom.
