Elliott of Waterbury enlisted in the First Connecticut Volunteer Heavy Artillery on June 8 1861 and was mustered in as a private on June 10 1861. He was promoted to corporal on October 15 1861. He re-enlisted on March 31 1864 and was promoted to sergeant on May 10 1864 and to first sergeant on May 23 1864. He was promoted to second lieutenant on December 10 1864. He mustered out on September 25 1865. James P. Elliott gives his address as North Manchester, not Waterbury, in an inscription on the photograph, so it is not clear that this actually the same James P. Elliott. (Finlay 4/19/2012)On View
