DescriptionColumbus, standing in the prow of a small boat, holds his plumed hat in his hand. In the other hand he holds a flag. A boy embraces him. A group of five barefoot sailors kneel before him. Three men wearing shoes look on. Another man steadies the boat with a pole. The island of Hispañola is in the background with cliffs and palm trees. A nineteenth-century ship is anchored in the left background.
