DescriptionA young man with sideburns stands on a paved walk in front of a house with lattice windows and a column and brackets supporting an overhang. He wears a military uniform consisting of a jacket with epaulettes, a sash, and pants. He holds a military helmet with a plume and tassel in his right hand. With his left hand, he embraces a young woman. She wears a dress with undersleeves and an apron. She holds what appears to be a locket in her left hand. Her other jewelry includes a bracelet, necklaces, and earrings. She has a comb and a wreath of flowers in her hair. A second soldier on horseback is by the gate, holding a riderless horse. Flowers, including hollyhocks and roses, grow in the right foreground. A plant in a wooden bucket is on the grassy lawn at the far left. A road and trees are in the background.
