MarkingsIn brown ink, on old paper label affixed to back of frame: "Timothy Johnson / of / Branford, Conn., / grandfather of / Harriet M. Johnson Meade / Born August 1 - 1757 / Died July 4 - 1844"NotesSubject Note: Information found in the Hale Headstone Index: Johnson Timothy; Died 8/4/1844; Branford 204; Inscription; Cemetary 1; p. 37The donor, Meredith E. Watson, was the cousin of Harriet M. Johnson Meade, the granddaughter of Timothy Johnson and the daughter of Charlotte M. Johnson. Harriet M. Johnson Meade died in Petersburg, VA at age 90.
It is likely that Charlotte M. Johnson was the daughter of Timothy Johnson due to their difference in age. It is possible they were husband and wife, but both arguments remain unconfirmed.
Date Note: Silhouette subject appears to have high point collar, coat with large collar, and forward dressed spiked hair. All fashion features, along with his approxiate age being 50's or 60's, suggest the date of the silhouette being late 18th to early 19th century.
