DescriptionAn officer on horseback gestures forward with his hat, which he holds in his right hand. Infantry soldiers holding rifles with fixed bayonets run and fall beside him. Dead men lie on the ground. An American flag is carried by troops advancing from the left. The Confederate lines are in the right background, surrounded by cannon smoke.
