DescriptionBlown colorless cut lead glass decanter with a wide, thick rim, a cylindrical neck, low sloping shoulders, a semi-barrel shaped body, and flat bottom with a polished pontil mark. The top interior of the neck has been ground to receive a stopper. The decanter (.a) has three applied rings at the neck, each consisting of a thick band of glass with a smaller band above and below. Wide, two-inch-tall cut flutes circle the bottom of the decanter. There is a ring of light scratches and wear on the edge of the bottom of the decanter.

A pressed colorless lead glass stopper (.b) accompanies the decanter. The stopper consists of a mushroom-shaped finial above a ground portion that fits into the neck of the decanter. The finial has a central starburst with shorter rays coming out toward the undulating edge. The underside of the finial has an all over diamond pattern.

Pontil mark: A rough place on a blown glass object where the solid metal rod, or pontil, is cracked off the object after final shaping and decoration. Pontil marks can be polished to achieve a smooth surface.
