BiographyIsaac Sheffield was born in 1807, son of Captain Isaac Sheffield and Betsy Sizer. Sheffield lived most of his life in the New London area of Connecticut, but often would take residence in New York City. Sheffield was known for his depiction of Connecticut sea captains and at the time of his death in 1845 was said to have lived in a whaling district of New London, Connecticut.
