BiographyThomas Hooker Cowles was the fourth son of Elizabeth Cheney Cowles and Alfred Cowles II. He was born on 6 June 1895. His mother died in 1898, and he and his brothers may have been raised in Spokane, Washington by his maternal aunt, Harriet Cheney Cowles. She had married Alfred Cowles' brother. Thomas graduated from Yale in 1917. Thomas Hooker Cheney married Barbara Hughitt Granger on October 21, 1891 in Lake Forest, Illinois. They had two daughters, Mary Hoyt Cowles (b. 1923) and Sarah Frances Cowles (b. 1925). Thomas was only 32 years old when he died on 21 August 1927.
