BiographyKnight Cheney Cowles was the second son of Elizabeth Cheney Cowles and Alfred Cowles II. Knight's mother died in 1898, and he and his brothers may have been raised by his maternal aunt, Harriet Bowen Cheney. She had married Alfred Cowles' brother and lived in Spokane, Washington. Knight graduated from Yale University in 1916. He married Alice Winslow Farnsworth in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and they had two daughters, Edith Farnsworth Cowles (b. 1920) and Elizabeth Cheney Cowles (b. 1923). After 1926, the Cowles lived in Lake Forest, Illinois.
