BiographyLouis Bacon was born on November 1, 1904, in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a jazz trumpeter and vocalist. His family moved to Chicago when he was young. In 1928, Louis relocated to New York City where he worked until 1938 with musicians such as Louis Armstrong, Benny Carter, Duke Ellington, Bingie Madison, Bessie Smith, and Chick Webb. In 1938, he contracted tuberculosis and took a one year break. In 1939, he embarked on a tour of Europe with Willie Lewis. After his return to the U.S., he worked with Garvin Bushell, Cootie Williams, and Jesse Stone, but shortly after the end of World War II, he stopped playing once again due to persistent health problems. He played trumpet again briefly from 1959 to 1960, working in New York, and late in his career taught voice and sang with Wilbur De Paris.
