Louis Alman
Italian American, 1835 - 1903
BiographyLouis Alman was born in Turin, Italy in 1835. He immigrated to the United States in 1862 and worked as a photographer, establishing a studio in New York City and a seasonal studio in Lake Mahopac, New York.
In 1875, Alman founded L. Alman & Co. with partner James B. Lewis. He later operated the business with Lewis's wife, Harriet, before the partnership dissovled sometime after 1880.
Alman formed another partnership with Pauline Scheible and Frank Rudd around 1893, after which he opened a branch studio in Newport, Rhode Island.
Alman became a citizen of the United States in 1897. He died sometime before February of 1903.
