BiographyFlorence Breckenridge Palmer was born on September 8, 1908, in Winsted, Connecticut, the first of two daughters born to Alison Ely and Louise (Potter) Palmer. Her sister was Cornelia (1913-1995). Alison Palmer worked at the Winsted Silk Company until 1926 or 1927, when he moved the family to Elgin, Illinois. The family retained their summer home in Winsted, which they visited throughout the years.

Florence graduated from Elmira College in 1931 and took a position as teacher at the Faith Hubbard School and the American School for Girls (both missionary schools) in Hamadan, Persia (Iran). Before her return home in 1933 she took a trip through Europe. Florence considered herself a writer, and in the 1940s worked as the editor of The Young People’s Weekly. In 1942, David Cook Publishing Company, which published the journal, was sold and Florence was unemployed. She stayed with family friends, the Wilcoxes, and later that year married George. George was in the service from 1942-1945. Some time before 1949, George and Florence were divorced and she remained single until her death. In her later years, Florence enjoyed traveling to Europe and Asia.

Florence died on December 28, 2005 in Elgin, IL.
