James V. Perrone

American, 1928 - 2010

BiographyJames Vincent Perrone was born on 22 July 1928 in Hartford, Connecticut. Under the stage name "Buddy James" he played the saxophone with big band dance orchestras. In 1951, he entered the Queen of Apostles Seminary in Dedham, Massachusetts, a seminary run by the Society of African Missions. He studied for eight years and was ordained on 7 February 1959. After completing studies for missionary work at Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., Father Perrone went to Africa to work as a missionary in the Diocese of Cape Palmas in Liberia. In 1964, he returned to the U.S. and was appointed as S.M.A. vocation director in Tenafly, N.J., Chicago, and Washington. Father Perrone was then appointed pastor of St. Odilia Church in Los Angeles. In 2001, he was one of the U.S. Olympic sponsors to be a torchbearer for the 2002 Winter Olympics. He died on 15 July 2010 in Spokane, Washington.
