BiographyGeorge C. Hastings (1928-2017) was an American lawyer. He was a retired partner at the Hartford law firm Robinson & Cole, where he practiced from 1957 to 1995.
Hastings was a graduate of Loomis School, Yale College, and Yale Law School. After graduating, he taught and coached wrestling at Loomis School for two years before serving as a private in the U.S. Army Infantry. During his time in law school, he was on the staff of the Yale Law Journal and was the assistant wrestling coach. Following law school, he clerked for U.S. District Court Judge John P. Anderson in New Haven.
Throughout his career, Hastings was involved in civil liberties and public service. He served on various boards and committees, including the Wethersfield Zoning Board of Appeals, the West Hartford Board of Education, and the West Hartford Democratic Town Committee. He was also a director and president of the Bedford Street Housing Corporation, a trustee of Loomis School, and the president of the Capital Area Foundation for Equal Justice. He was also a director of Statewide Legal Services and was a long-time board member and supporter of the American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut, where he served as president of the Center for First Amendment Rights. George C. Hastings passed away on January 27, 2017, after battling a brain tumor.
