BiographyWalter Eugene Freeman was born on 28 April 1928 in West Hartford, Connecticut. He was the son of Walter Freeman (1883-1976) and Clara T. Freeman (1891-1963). He had one sister, Clara Inez (Freeman) Foote.

He grew up in Hartford and moved to Windsor in 1966. He graduated from Hartford Public High School and Virginia State University with a degree in Chemistry. He worked at the Pratt & Whitney Division of United Technologies for 37 years, retiring in 1987. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a director of the Connecticut Savings and Loan Association, which was Hartford's first minority banking institution.

He married Shirley Mary Davis (1930-2023). They had two sons: Walter Eugene Freeman, Jr. and Brian Mark Freeman.

He died on 23 November 2000 at Hartford Hospital.
