BiographyJohn Allen Roberts (24 August 1873 - 8 July 1961) was born in Pennsylvania, then moved to New Jersey as a boy. After two years of high school, he went to work in the New York office of the Smith Worthington Company as an office boy. After attending night school and the Pratt Business College, he became assistant bookkeeper and accountant and later became head of the accounting department. In 1915, he was transferred to the Hartford office and factory as manager. He bought the business and became owner-president in 1930. He sold the company in 1957.
