DescriptionRound, porcelain teacup (.a) and saucer (.b) that are elaborately decorated with Japanese scenes. Both the teacup and saucer have the same four scenes pictured on the surface. The first scene shows a group of seven birds flying through the air in a 'V' formation over the ocean. The second scene shows three men dressed in robes standing on the banks of a river with a tree and waterfall in the background. The third scene shows a crowd of women in kimonos standing on the bank of a river and on the porch of a building. The fourth fan-shaped scene shows a group of flowers on a peach background. Each scene is separated by areas of the porcelain that are decorated with scrolls and leaves. A band of gold and red abstract geometric shapes decorates the rim of both the teacup and saucer. Some of this decoration spills over the rim of the teacup. The inside bottom of the teacup shows a Japanese man in a robe walking through a field while playing a flute. The teacup has an additional gold and red handle and scalloped foot. There is a small scorch mark on the inside bottom of the teacup.
