DescriptionSixth plate daguerreotype of Lucy Abigail Brainard, probably made when Lucy was in her late teens or very early twenties. She is facing the camera straight on, her left hand resting on a small side table and her hands folded in her lap.
Her paisley-patterned dress features a bodice with fan pleats that appear to be lined with piping, although it is difficult to tell. The sleeves of the dress have short oversleeves that puff out before being gathered at the cuffs, which sit at mid-upper arm. The long sleeves are narrow and cuffed at the wrists. The small, white lace collar is fastened at the neck with a brooch. She is wearing what may be a watch around her neck on a long, dark cord.
Lucy's hair is worn parted in the middle and fashioned into wings over her ears, the lobes of which are just visible.
