DescriptionQuarter plate ambrotype of five girls ranging in age from about six to about 13, with the two youngest standing behind the three seated older girls. On the back, their names are written in a faint hand: Laura, Carie, Mary, [illegible], Hannah, and Diana.
All but the youngest are wearing off-the-shoulder dresses; the youngest girl's dress has a wide neckline but it is not quite off the shoulder. A variety of accessories are on view: fingerless lace gloves, chokers (possibly made of hair), a single-stranded necklace of what might be coral, and several brooches worn in the center of the yoke neckline.
All five girls wear their hair parted in the center (or just off-center); the youngest, second from the left, has short hair that comes to just below her ears. The rest have longer hair that is pulled back. The three on the right appear to be wearing bows or ribbons in their hair.
