DescriptionA family group is posed in the interior of a room, probably a parlor. The woman is in profile, seated in an upholstered chair at the left. A man with a beard sits beside her, reading an illustrated magazine or newspaper. He is wearing a paisley patterned dressing gown over trousers, a vest, shirt, and tie. Three children are at the right. The girl is seated, holding an open picture book in her lap. The older boy looks over her shoulder. The younger boy is to the left. A cat is in the right foreground. A patterned floorcovering is on the floor. A landscape is visible out of an open window framed by drapery in the right background. A Raphael Madonna and Child in an oval frame hangs on the wall in the left background.
