DescriptionPair of cast pewter patens, or dishes, part of a Communion service consisting of a pair of Communion cups (.1-.2), a pair of patens (.3-.4), and a flagon (.5). Each paten has a single bead at the outer edge of the 1 3/16-inch-wide rim, a relatively deep well, and a faint incised line circling the bottom of the well.
The top of paten .3 has light scratches; the underside is lightly scratched and worn. Paten .4 has light scratches over all surfaces, with two additional areas of deeper scratches on the top surface of the well. Paten .4 has a general pattern of wear on the underside of the well.

MarkingsThe underside of each paten has two marks of an eagle with outstretched wings and a shield-shaped body. "THOMAS D." is in an arch above the eagle, and "BOARDMAN" is in an inverted arch below. The letter "X" is stamped between the two eagle marks.Each paten has a small rectangular white paper label adhered to the underside.
