DescriptionCast pewter basin with a single raised bead at the outer edge of the narrow rim, straight tapered sides, and a flat bottom. An incised line circles the interior bottom of the basin. The interior bottom and underside of the basin have visible skimming marks and chatter marks. There are light scratches on the interior bottom and underside of the basin.

Skimming Marks: Skimming marks are concentric rings left on cast pewter objects by skimming tools. Skimming is the process of removing metal and smoothing rough surfaces by scraping the pewter object as it rotates on a lathe.

Chatter Marks: Chatter marks are radial lines extending across skimming marks on a pewter object, caused by vibration of the skimming tool.

MarkingsThe center interior bottom of the basin has a round mark consisting of a rampant lion separating the initials "ID"; at least three raised vertical lines are superimposed over the lower third of the mark.
