DescriptionCast pewter plate, 7 3/4 inch diameter, with a single bead at the outer edge of the 1 1/8-inch-wide rim, a shallow well, and an incised line circling the bottom of the well. The rim has a band of parallel, slanted chatter marks just inside the bead. There are light scratches on all surfaces of the plate.

Chatter Marks: Chatter marks are radial lines extending across the skimming marks on a pewter object. Chatter marks are caused by vibration of the skimming tool used in smoothing the rough surfaces of an object on a lathe.

MarkingsJacobs Mark 108 - The underside of the plate has two round marks, each consisting of the name "SAMUEL DANFORTH" in a circle around an eagle with outstretched wings and a shield-shaped body, below a small field of stars.
