DescriptionBlown colorless lead glass jar with a short cylindrical neck, narrow shoulders, a cylindrical body, and a shallow kick and a pontil mark on the bottom. The jar has a rusting tin lid with a domed and dented top and cylindrical sides. Inside the jar is a large fragment of wood, a circular piece of fabric, and dried fruit tied together with string. One side of the jar has a rectangular paper label adhered to the surface of the glass. An extensive hand-written ink note on the label reads, "English, Pearmain./ from [unknown] Tree imported in 1638/ by Gov. George Wyllys/ The Tree stands on the Charter/ Oak Place, now owned and/ occupied by Hon [unreadable] H. Stuart./ and was presented [obscured] him Oct. 1855." The edges of the label are worn, and the paper is yellowed.
