DescriptionSmall-mouthed buff-colored stoneware preserve jar with a flat lid. The jar (a) has cylindrical sides that narrow to form a neck and expanded rim. A shelf on the inside edge of the rim supports the flat lid (b). The jar is covered on the inside and outside with a dark brown slip glaze, or Albany-type slip glaze. The glaze is thinly applied in some areas and thicker in others, creating a horizontal band of darker brown glaze. The bottom of the jar is not glazed at all, but has multiple rows of concentric curved lines. There are several indentations and lumps in the stoneware that occurred prior to glazing, at the rim, sides, and foot. The flat lid has a small, disc-shaped finial in the center, as well as an Albany-type slip glaze on the top surface.
