DescriptionCylindrical, five gallon stoneware jar or crock with a salt glaze on the exterior and a brown slip glaze, or Albany-type glaze, on the interior. The jar/crock has a flat bottom and cylindrical sides that extend in a flat, rolled rim. There is an incised line circling the jar/crock about two inches below the rim. Two delicate, pulled, crescent handles have been applied on opposite sides of the jar/crock, over the incised line. Between the handles, on one side, is an impressed mark, "SEYMOUR & BOSWORTH/ HARTFORD. CONN/ 5". The mark has been covered lightly with cobalt blue. Below this is an elaborate, hand-painted cobalt blue design. The design shows a three story house on the left with smoke coming out of a chimney. A tall tree with widely-spread branches is in a fenced-in area on the right. There are three imperfections in the glaze at the base of the design. A fourth imperfection is located to the left of the design. There is one minor indentation in the stoneware, opposite the design.
