DescriptionRound, cream-colored ironstone plate with a black transfer-printed underglaze pattern and border. The circular pattern in the center of the plate is titled, "The Charter Oak and the Wyllys Mansion at Hartford" on the bottom. The pattern shows a substantial leafless tree behind an iron fence on the lawn of a two-story, wood dwelling. A man and a woman in nineteenth-century clothing are standing on the street in the foreground, where there is also a gentleman in a top hat riding a horse. The pattern is surrounded at the rim by a black printed border. The border consists of a dense vine of grapes and grape leaves with a ribbon, or banner, wrapped around the vine. The names of Connecticut towns are written on the banner that circles the vine on the border. These are, "ASHFORD/ STONINGTON/ GROTON/ PRESTON/ VOLUNTOWN/ PLAINFIELD/ KILLINGLY/ NEW LONDON/ NORWICH/ CANTERBURY/ POMFRET/ WINDHAM". There is crazing on all the surfaces of the plate.

MarkingsThere is one lengthy printed underglaze black mark on the bottom of the plate. It begins, "CONNECTICUT/ TERCENTENARY/ CELEBRATION" over a shield with three grape vines inside. Below the shield is a banner with the motto, "QUI TRANSTULIT SUSTINET". To the left is the date "1635", and to the right is the date "1935". Below this is the title of the pattern, "THE CHARTER OAK AND THE WYLLYS MANSION AT HARTFORD", then "F.W.D., Del."NotesHistorical Note: G.
