DescriptionRound, white, earthenware or ironstone plate with a shaped, undulating rim and a blue-tinted glaze. The plate is decorated with a black underglaze transfer-printed pattern and border, and overglaze red and green enamels. The central pattern, named "Venus", shows two small figures of a man and woman standing on a small bank overlooking a body of water. The woman is wearing red and carrying a parasol, while the man is wearing a red cape. They are looking over the water to a large neo-classical structure on the far shore. A large urn sits on a wall to the right, and two swans float in the water in the foreground. Tall trees in the left and right foreground frame the scene. The pattern is surrounded by an area of white, with the border covering the rim of the plate. The border consists of evenly spaced, scrolled vines on a background of graduated lines. The red and green enamels have been used to highlight leaves on the vines and the trees in the landscape. The plate has a light overall crazing, primarily on the decorated surfaces.

Underneath the oval, inside a banner, are the maker's initials, "PW&Co".InscribedA small typed sticker attached to the front of the plate reads, "Pearl/ Tone Ware/ 1639".
