DescriptionLarge, round, earthenware pitcher decorated with copper luster and sprig-molded relief ornament. The pitcher sits on a tapered foot, with several bands of small, cream-colored ribs just above. Above the ribs is a band of copper luster, created by applying gold luster over a dark slip. The band of copper luster has five sprig-molded and applied decorations. Two are clusters of flowers, and one shows an urn, vine, and leaf motif. The remaining two decorations show two different scenes. One is a boy pulling an oxen while a man plows a field to the right. The other shows a boy on an animal, possibly a lion, in a field beneath a tree. Above the gold luster band with applied sprig-molded decoration the neck of the pitcher narrows slightly, and another band of copper luster decorates the neck. In addition to the luster, the neck of the pitcher is decorated with a border of sprig-molded relief, showing a series of small flowers in a cartouche. The pitcher has a molded and applied handle opposite a spout that has been decorated with pink luster in a scalloped line.

The pitcher has evidence of extensive conservation work completed to repair portions of the sprig-molded decoration, the spout, handle, and a chip on the foot. It appears that the conservator used a pale putty to reconstruct the decoration and fill in the chips. A similar techique was used to reconstruct a portion of the neck, to the left of the spout.
