DescriptionRectangular, thick, heavy, white earthenware platter with canted corners and a raised shell-shaped decoration at the edge. The raised decoration has been hand-painted with a dark underglaze cobalt blue; otherwise, the platter is plain. There are a few stilt marks and imperfections in the glaze on both sides of the platter. There is a large crack running from the rim of the platter all the way to the center; the crack has darkened considerably over time. Additionally, the top of the platter shows spatterings of dirt, and in one spot on the rim the glaze has chipped away. The bottom of the platter is in a similar condition, with a build up of an unknown sticky substance on the bottom and a different dark unknown substance along the edge of the foot.
