DescriptionRectangular earthenware platter with canted corners and a transfer-printed underglaze medium blue pattern and border. The pattern in the center of the platter, titled, "Persia", shows three people and two dogs standing on a bluff overlooking a body of water. Two of the people are holding bows and arrows, and all three are wearing turbans. There is a Mediterranean-style structure to the right in the foreground, and two Mediterranean-style structures in the distance. The scene is framed by tropical trees, and there are mountains in the far distance. This pattern is surrounded by a border that covers the rim of the platter. The border consists of regularly spaced shell-shaped clusters of flowers with intricate trailing vines between.

There is a small, typed, sticky label affixed to the front of the platter just below the pattern. The label reads, "Persia/ Ware/ 1639". There is one chip in the rim, to the lower right of the pattern. Imperfections in the ironstone and glaze appear as black dots and dashes on the surface of the platter. The glaze has rubbed off the edges of the foot of the platter, which have accumulated dirt over time.
