DescriptionSmall, porcelain dish in the shape of a veined leaf; the stem and edges of the leaf are curled up to create a relatively deep space. The edges of the dish are gilded, and there is an oval, black enamel scene printed in the center of the dish. The scene is titled below, "SECOND CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, WINSTED, CONN." It shows a Romanesque-style stone building with a tall tower, arched doorways, and hipped rooflines. There is a street and sidewalk in front of the building and trees on either side. Much of the gilding has worn off of the edges of the dish.

MarkingsThere is one printed, black enamel mark on the bottom of the dish; it reads, "MADE IN GERMANY FOR/ NEWTON & LINCOLN/ WINSTED, CONN." Additionally, there is a small, oval, red and white paper label adhered to the bottom of the dish. The number "35" and other small squiggles are hand-written in pencil on the label.Subject Terms
